- Spring Trends: Floral and Orange -
While both orange and florals were trends last spring, too, I can’t get enough of the floral and orange pieces available this season! And, the two look amazing when put together like the model from the runway above.

Use the trends to create an outfit or accessorize a basic look. Add an orange bag and floral blazer to a little black dress or with a white skirt with a coordinating tank in a hue from the blazer. If you bought a great orange or floral piece last spring, you’ll be excited to get to incorporate the trend for another season.

Floral is such a versatile print giving you the ability to pair it with every color present in the print you purchase. Everyone needs a floral blazer, bag, dress, or top to really make the spring shades pop. And, of course orange creates a bold statement when added to a print or with a neutral palette. Using garments you already own to create an outfit and adding a new orange and/or floral piece steps up your look from office attire to grabbing dinner with friends. Check out the orange and floral pieces below to find what will make your Spring & Summer wardrobe sing!

- A Closer Look -

It’s Thursday and who doesn’t love a good “Throwback Thursday” instagram, facebook, or twitter post? In the spirit of #tbt, here’s a closer look at the SCS partnership with Sam & Lilli from December. If you missed the post or their email, you can check it out here: http://southernchicstyle.tumblr.com/post/69814869366/if-youre-looking-for-what-to-wear-this-holiday

While I chose the looks based on holiday happenings, the outfits still work for events on your calendar this month and the next. Necklaces, bracelets, belt, and bags in the photos are also from Sam & Lilli and are great accessories throughout the year.

Try the plaid look for a casual date night, the skirt and silk button down for work then happy hour, the silk pant and sweater for running errands or a laid back lunch with your girlfriends, and dress up in the dress and clutch for Valentine’s Day dinner, a work dinner, or even a sophisticated night out on the town.

Find styles like these at Sam & Lilli2800 Kirby Dr., Ste a-133, Houston, TX

- Holiday Hostess Gifting -
Holiday hustle and bustle is right! We’re already scrambling to finish Christmas shopping with fewer days between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, so hostess gifts may be an after thought for all of the holiday parties in your life!
Wine is an easy go-to gift, but what do you do for the hostess who doesn’t drink wine? A friend brought my husband and I one of the best hostess gifts ever when we had our Olympics party - a really good Balsamic vinegar! Don’t get me wrong - we do love wine, but it was great getting the kitchen staple. Pictured here you may have assumed those were wine bottles, but I loved the gift so much (my husband LOVES balsamic vinegar) that this year we decided to bring a good Italian balsamic to the parties we had on our calendar this past weekend. They look like wine but among the bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinots, this gift added some diversity.
Etiquette suggests bringing something to your hosts when invited to the holiday parties (elaborate and expensive not necessary) and easy is better when crunched for time. These two bottles of Italian balsamic that I found at Home Goods were a great find. I added the bows, but for those who don’t enjoy bow making, the accessories you can buy for wine bottles work great on the wine bottle sized vinegar.
Other great gift ideas outside of the wine world include candles, a decorative holiday plate, and even a kitchen accessory you know the hostess would enjoy - cheese plate, monogrammed mug, hot chocolate gift set, specialty food items, and even a scented soap or lotion. Be sure to stick with a price range you’re comfortable with. No need to break the bank. It’s the gesture that counts! Add a personalized touch with with a simple bow, cute holiday tag, candy cane tied to the gift, or accessory.

- Seeing (and wearing) Stingray -

We’ve incorporated python, croc, and other reptiles into the prints in our life, and just when you thought you’d accumulated them all…. enter Stingray! I started noticing this print ALL OVER this season. At the Miu Miu Opening Party, I saw the above pictured wedge in many colors along with handbags and clutches, then at Elaine Turner (local Houston designer) I saw the above wrap bracelet in the print as well as shoes and handbags, then Tory Burch, then I noticed the print from Alexander McQueen, and on and on….

Pictured here are just a few of the items you can find utilizing the stingray print - from pumps, to watches, to bangles and flats… Take a look and you’ll see this print in more pieces than you may have noticed. I find stingray a tad more subtle than python or croc, and therefore stingray seems to be finding its way onto the fashion scene in so many forms. Most are a stingray pattern (like the YSL ring pictured) or stamped leather with the print (animal lovers should be happy to know that). Your higher end items may be the real thing, but you’ll be on trend even with the stamped versions. Add a pop here or there in a great handbag, sassy stiletto, or unique statement jewelry and take on the day!

Jewelry that’s Uniquely Yours
Last fall during Fashion Houston, I spotted a table covered in beautiful stone jewelry. As I went through the gorgeous pieces, I visited with the very talented Wayne Anderson - owner/creator/designer of the stunning jewelry line I was viewing: VITA New York. Turns out, Wayne didn’t always design jewelry.
'Wayne remembers, “I actually went to a trade show once, and I was selling and making handbags at the time and nobody was at my booth, they were all at the jewelry line!” '
And from there, enter VITA New York. Wayne works with semi-precious stones and never shapes them to keep the stones organic and natural. No one piece will be the same. Pictured above are pieces currently on the VITA New York website. You’ll find single, double, and triple stone earrings, rings, and necklaces along with what Wayne named the “wrist belt”. Only 4 weeks after creating the “wrist belt”, Harper’s Bazaar was calling to include it in their October 2010 issue. Click here to view a segment that aired on ABC Saturday about Wayne and VITA New York. Wayne demonstrates how to wear the “wrist belt” and discusses the inspiration behind his line.
I walked away from VITA New York’s table with my own unique single stone ring which I find myself wearing often. I definitely plan on adding more to my collection very soon. To get your own one-of-a-kind piece, go to www.vitanewyorkstore.com. Wayne also travels for home shows if you have a group of friends who love jewelry as well. No two are ever the same, and every single one is beautiful. And, the prices make it really hard to pass up. Take a look!
