- Safari Chic -
Don’t get me wrong… I have no plans of heading into the jungle and definitely NOT in heels, but this Robert Rodriguez dress has us thinking of taking a walk on the wild side. Both TOOTSIES's TTO sale finds, the shoes and dress were meant to be worn together!
The safari chic Robert Rodriguez shirt dress is super flattering with perfectly placed pleats, pockets, and sheer panels on the shoulders. The key is to find dresses with waists that hit you at just the right spot - for everyone that smallest part of your waist is different. This one worked for me and my long torso. Coupled with a Sam Edelman cage sandal, that gives the appearance of a sheer, the pair works together wonderfully.
I love an easy dress for summer and this one transitions into Fall giving you the chance to throw on a cropped leather jacket and tights for an edgy look. A challenge I always take on this time of year is shopping the huge sales and finding pieces that will surpass the current season. The booties are also an ideal transition shoe as we stay warm through October in Houston and my feet will appreciate a little breath-ability possibly even into November.

How gorgeous is Heidi Klum in September’s issue of Better Homes & Gardens wearing the Robert Rodriguez Leather Neck Sheath Dress?!? So simple & classy. Love her “arm candy” too!

Cobalt and Coral
Just one of the bold color pairings to try for spring and summer! Cobalt and coral together is the one that stood out to me as a must try. Pictured first above, the Joie Marru blouse can be paired with a maxi skirt like above or a colored skinny jean or shorts. Try the Halston Heritage Pleated Maxi Skirt with a white blouse for a more subdued look or try a vibrant patterned top in bold colors.
Another color combo I liked from Neiman Marcus’ Color Lookbook is the green and yellow also pictured above. The fitted pale blue J Brand Jeans denim jacket adds a touch of summer chic to the colorful outfit. The Elizabeth and James Seymour Racerback Top seemlessly fits into any wardrobe and can be worn pretty much any season. Have fun with the Robert Rodriguez Front-Pocket Twill Pants which you can dress up with a patterned blouse or dress down with a slouchy tee.
The third photo above is a great pair of tribal print shorts I found through @Lindasstuff which came from another blog found here. I LOVE these shorts and am in the process of finding out where they came from. I want them for myself! They were a great addition to this post with the bold colors and (like we’ve seen in many S/S 2012 runway shows) a tribal/aztec print.
Moral of the story… don’t be afraid to try some of spring and summer’s boldest colors together for a fresh, new look that really pops! Check out Neiman Marcus’ Color Lookbook for more color pairing ideas.

Fashionistas at Fashion on Sale
This weekend CultureMap Houston hosted their Fashion on Sale at West Ave. I attended the VIP party on Friday with early shopping and the event continued through Saturday and Sunday. There were dumplings from Gigi’s Asian Bistro, mini cupcakes from Sprinkles, an informal runway show, and lots and lots of shopping!
The first stop with my friends was Tootsies! My lovely friend Amy was the first purchase of the night with her hot BCBG python strapless dress (pictured top). I followed her with a black Robert Rodriguez halter romper (LOVE!). Tootsies had a great selection of items on sale! We perused Elaine Turner’s area with beautiful shoes and purses. Following Elaine Turner, I found my own touch of python at Marnie Rocks in the form of a python cuff and also found an awesome turquoise bracelet. My next stop was Carrie Ann Boutique (located in Uptown Park) which is where the dress I wore that night came from (dress by Tart).
The middle left photo is with Houston designer David Peck (and the dress I pre-ordered)! He had items on sale and samples from his Spring/Summer 2012 CrOp collection (inspired by New Orleans and the beauty of the Gulf Coast and rightfully named “Crescent Rising”) for pre-order. I pre-ordered the Janvier dress in “Spanish Moss” which was actually worn recently by Giuliana Rancic. It’s made of organic cotton and is also available in a print inspired by Zapp’s Potato Chips called “Chips Papillon”. If you enjoy the show “Hart of Dixie” like I do, look for Lemon to wear one of David’s “Chips Papillion” pieces in an upcoming episode. I loved David’s interpretation of various aspects of south Louisiana (my birthplace) with other prints named “Mardi Gras”, “Monteleone”, “Relection Pool”, and “The Birds”. Look for the collection coming soon to davidpeckcollection.com.
I’d maxed out my shopping by then, but still stopped in Chloe Dao’s section with her line and items from her boutique, Lot 8. Azur West (A Shu Uemura Salon) was also present giving hair style tips and ideas. I grabbed some dumplings with the girls and waited for the runway show to begin. The third photo (middle right) is one of my favorite runway looks from the night that’s available at Tootsies. The tribal print jacket and black and white cropped pants paired well with the Elaine Turner clutch.
I left the event with some fun swag and great deals on the items I purchased.

RESORT ON MY RADAR
With New Years Eve only 4 days away, I’ve found myself pouring over sparkly dresses looking for just the right one. As I was perusing Intermix online, I came across their Resort 2012 section. The bright colors grabbed my attention, and the rest of my night was spent looking through Resort collection after collection on Style.com. They were full of yellows, greens, blues, white and black, orange, pink, and fun patterns. Of his collection, Yigal Azrouel was quoted saying “I was inspired by color this season.” I found myself smiling as I clicked through the runway looks from designers like Valentino, Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, Alice + Olivia, Chloe, Jason Wu, Peter Som, and on and on. The vivid colors and patterns just seemed to make me… happy! I guess I was ready for some more color in the wardrobes of people I see on a daily basis and didn’t realize it. To see more of the Resort 2012 looks I loved, click here and log-in to style.com for my lookbook.
